Comments:Each day that goes by, a piece of my heart goes with it. I am so very appreciative of all the comments made on Rodney's Guestbook. It really makes a Mom proud to know that he was so loved by so many people and I know that he loved working on the Carolina Princess. Most of all he loved all his fishing friends and really enjoyed the children that came aboard. Rodney never met a stranger and always tried to make everyone feel safe and comfortable when the boat left the dock. Many, many THANKS to the Owners, Staff and Mates at the Carolina Princess for being there for me and many, many THANKS for having this website in Rodney's Memory. I am sure that there are many people that have not yet heard of Rodney's passing and would not know if it were not for our second family having put it on their website in his memory. I miss and love my Son very much and until we meet again, I send hugs and kisses. Love Ya.. Mom

Comments:Me, my dad and a friend of ours took an 18 hour trip on the princess around April of 2006. Woo Woo was at the helm and Rodney was one of the mates. I have been fishing my entire life and because of the friendly crew and the superb fishing that we expirienced, the trip turned out to be one of the most memorable fishing tips of my life, we had a great time and I hope to come again, but ill miss woo woo and rodney

Comments: Rodney was always the 1st person that spoke to me when I came on board. I loved talking with Rodney and especially listening to the conversation going on at the cuttin' board while he was cuttin bait preppin tackle. I still go fishin on the Princess, but there will always be a void there, if you knew Rodney.

Comments:I just went to the Carolina Princess web site to plan fishing this fall and am deeply saddened to hear of Rodney's passing. I will miss him. In fact I just mentioned him while talking to my girlfriend a few minutes ago and told her about how helpfull he was and I was looking forward to our annual visit. Now I have to go fishing this year in his honor. I wish his family well. This is a lesson on living and the lives you touch with your kindness. Don and Tina

Comments:When I saw of Rodney's passing I was devastated because of the years on the Carolina Princess that he had with my sons. We had come fishing with Woo Woo and Rodney ever since they were little boys and he was so great with them. My sons would help him "cut bait" and they were so thrilled to see him when we would get onto the boat. In all of my life, I think Rodney was one of the most genuinely REAL people on the planet. His kindness will take him onto his next life. My deepest sympathies to his family, I know that they knew he was a gem. Spending a day on the "princess" was always a special time for my boys and when I told them about the loss of Rodney, they knew that it would never be the same. All of you are continually in our thoughts.

Comments:Son, you just turned 40 on July 1st and plans were made to take you to the Biltmore House when you turned 40 and to bring you back home to Morehead City. You were looking forward to coming back home and see all your friends and to get back on the Carolina Princess but it was not meant to be. I thought of you on your special day and all the plans that you and I talked about. You are so missed and so loved and I am with you always. A piece of my heart was taken with you on September 28, 2008. I love you Rodney and thank you for all the vacations that you made sure that you and I took. You always planned vacations every year for the two of us and I miss that very much but we had so many wonderful times together. May God keep you safe and I will see you again. Love Ya.. Mom

Comments:Rodney was a patient of mine at Chapel Hill health Care. I will always remember his smiling face as I was going up and down the hallway. He had such courage and faith to keep on trying to get better. Rodney and I spent time sharing our fishing stories. He always gave me advice and encouragement. I count it as a blessing to have meet Rodney and his mother. Miss Bonnie was always there with Rodney, giving him the extra love he needed and so deserved. I count myself blessed to have been a part of their life. Miss Bonnie, I keep you and yours in my prayers. There will be a special place in heaven for you. With thanks and great love Tina

Comments:I met Rodney at West Carteret when he moved here from Durham. I remember how we called him "Fletch" instead of Rodney. I recall how he was new to the area but he was so friendly and easy to talk to and get to know. Often when friends graduate life takes them down different paths. I remember seeing "Fletch" many years ago at the court house and we talked about the old days and about how he was working to improve on some mistakes he made along the way. I never saw "Fletch" again and didn't know he worked on the boat at the waterfront. I learned of his death by reading the news story about his class ring being found and returned. After this story my wife recalled finding a class ring years ago and bringing it to me to try and find the owner. This was before the advances in the internet and other ways to track people down. The ring wound up being tucked away in a drawer; until reading "Fletch's" story inspired me to try and locate the owner. I am currently in the process of trying to locate the owner and return the ring. Rodney's death has inspired me to "go above and beyond" to help my fellow man. I sincerely hope that Rodney's family finds comfort, Peace, and hope in the coming days and years. God bless you all!

Comments:Rodney was a very special individual, and I always looked forward to our visits at UNC. He always had a smile on his face despite all that he was dealing with. He was very fortunate to have such a loving mother who was completely devoted to him and provided him with superb care. Rodney was a wonderful man and he is missed.

IN MEMORY of RODNEY FLETCHER Minimize

Rodney passed away at 10:00 AM Sunday September 28th 2008.

This brings great sadness to all who knew and loved him.  He was a young man with a warm heart, gentle soul, and a smile and grin as wide as the ocean that he loved so much.

All of us at the Carolina Princess will miss him deeply.  Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with his mother, "Miss Bonnie", his sister Teresa, brother Dwayne, and his nieces and nephew.

Scattering of ashes was at Cape Lookout on October 31st.
